Setting up the visitor sign-in kiosk

Learn how to set up an iPad to work as your visitor sign-in kiosk.

Naming your iPad

We highly recommend giving each iPad a distinct name. You can do this before or after the iPad is paired to your location. Here’s why: once your iPad is paired, it will appear on your Visitors > Devices page. It’ll be easier to troubleshoot any issues later if the iPad has a distinct name. To name your iPad please make sure your Envoy Visitors app is on v4.5.1 and above and follow the below:

  1. Navigate to Settings on your iPad and scroll down to the Envoy Visitors Kiosk app.

  2. (on devices using iPadOS 18 or later please open Settings and then scroll to Apps then Envoy Visitors)

  3. Click on the app to access its settings and on the right, you will see Envoy Status.

  4. Under that section, find the Device Name field.

Enter your desired name and that name will reflect on the dashboard.

Use EU Region

Ensure the "Use EU Region" toggle is enabled in Envoy Visitors settings before moving to the next steps.

Pairing an iPad

Global and Location admins only

  1. On your iPad, open the App Store. Search for and download the Envoy Visitors Kiosk app.

  2. Open the Envoy Visitors app, and tap “I have an Envoy account.”

  3. Find the six-digit device pairing code.

  4. On your computer, go to Visitors > Devices > iPads.

  5. Type your device pairing code into the field.

(Click “New iPad” if you don’t see a field)

  6. Click “Pair this iPad" and your iPad will pair. This may take a few moments.

Tip: To add multiple iPads, repeat these steps as needed.

Removing an iPad

  1. Click on the ellipses (...) next to the iPad you wish to delete.

  2. Click Remove iPad.

  3. Click Remove again when the modal appears.

Reorder Visitor Types

To change the display order of the different visitor types each location uses, you can easily sort these in the Envoy dashboard by going to Visitors > Settings > Sign-in flow. Next to the Visitor type, select the sort icon and drag and drop to reorder the visitor types. Be sure to refresh the app to see the new order.

Using an iPad stand

We strongly recommend using an iPad stand to prop up your iPad, making it easier for visitors to sign in.

Visitor Kiosk FAQ

  • If your iPad's screen brightness gradually decreases over time and you're unable to access Settings because the device is in kiosk mode, it is typically due to iOS's Auto-Brightness feature.

    To fix this:

    • Exit kiosk mode by triple-clicking the Home button (or the top button on iPads without a Home button) and entering your guided access passcode

    • Open Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size and turn off Auto-Brightness

    • Open Settings → Display & Brightness and manually set the brightness slider to your preferred level

    • Turn off True Tone and Night Shift if enabled — both can affect screen brightness

    • Return to the Envoy Visitors Kiosk app and re-enable kiosk mode

    • After disabling Auto-Brightness, the screen will stay at the brightness level you set and should no longer dim on its own.

If you don't have your guided access passcode, contact your Envoy admin or our support team.

  • If the Visitor Kiosk is autofilling emails when visitors sign in, be sure to disable the 'Learn from this app' feature in your iPad settings. Navigate to Settings > Contacts > Siri & Search > Turn off 'Learn from this app'.

  • If you're receiving an error about an Invalid phone number/wrong area code during sign-in, it is recommended that you adjust the region setting on your iPad.

To change the Region, on the iPad, go to Settings > General > Language & Region > Region. Then select the appropriate country.
